Scene from Marvel's The Avengers (2012), ranked first for Marvel Superhero Movies |
Welcome to our Reel
Fives pre-launch movie rankings for best
Marvel superhero movies of all time. The rankings for Marvel superhero movies
are based on our pre-launch rankings for its parent genre, superhero movies.
This captures superhero movies more broadly and also includes DC
superhero movies. The movie rankings for top Marvel superhero movies are
based on the 130 movie ranking sources we found for superhero movies. In that
list there were 45 movies and of those 18 movies were for Marvel superheroes -
these 18 Marvel films are ranked below. As
with the broader superhero genre, the Marvel superhero movie rankings are based
on rankings created by movie experts as well as rankings from polling sites
that were found online.
Marvel superhero films are unique
in that many are thoroughly intertwined and consistent with a single Marvel
universe. The Avengers (2012), the
all-time best Marvel Superhero movie, does this best by being built up by individual
movies for Hulk, Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America. The film captures the
Marvel family at its best by using the strengths of all the superheroes to save
the world. Watching their interaction is
one of the main elements that enamored audiences. We have another set of consistent
movies in the X-Men and Wolverine (X-Men origins) movies. Iron Man (2008), ranked second, saves the world from destruction
after he builds a metal body suit after being captured by terrorists in the
Middle East. In this way it keeps to Iron Man’s authentic origin story while
updating it to today’s context. Marvel films, in contrast to DC superhero films,
also have a healthy dose of humor. For example, the relationship between
Captain America and Iron Man revolves around light insults. Guardians of the Galaxy (2014), ranked
fifth, may best incorporate humor. Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) is a reluctant
hero and his journey to save the world is a clumsy one. We also found a few
surprises in the list with the sequels ranking higher than the original movies.
Spider-man 2 (2004) is ranked third
while Spider-man (2002) ranked
seventh. X-Men 2 (2003) is ranked
fourth while X-Men (2000) ranked
eighth. Marvel will continue to build its universe with Captain America: Civil War, Deadpool, and X-Men: Apocalypse coming out this year.
